Records David Warner can break in IPL 2023
A prominent Australian international cricketer and a former captain of the Australian national team in the limited overs format, David Warner, is likely to break a number of records in the upcoming 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
With Rishabh Pant still recovering from his injuries sustained in a massive car accident last year, Warner will lead Delhi Capitals this season. He is one of the most successful batters in IPL and his records also reveal the same.
Let’s take a look at Warner’s numbers in IPL and all the records he holds.
In the years-long history of the league, the cricketer is currently the third-highest run-getter, with 5,881 runs in 162 games. Among batters with a minimum of 1,000 runs in successive leagues, Warner’s average of 42 is just second to KL Rahul. He owns four centuries and 55 fifties – the highest tally of fifty-plus scores for any player in IPL.
Among his other IPL records, the left-handed batter is the only player to claim the Orange Cap three times – in 2015, 2017, and 2019. He is also the second-highest individual run-scorer as a captain in the league (126 vs KKR in 2017), in addition to touching the 500-run mark the highest number of times in a season (6).
Read on for all the records the cricketer is expected to break this IPL season.
- The grand 6,000-run mark in IPL is currently owned by just Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan with 6,624 and 6,244 runs, respectively. While Warner is currently just 119 runs away from touching the milestone, Rohit Sharma – with 5,879 runs – is also not that far. Among overseas players, the Australian is the highest run-getter in the league.
- The upcoming IPL tournament brings Warner an impressive chance to become the first player in the league’s history to lift the trophy with two teams as a captain. The batter led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to glory in the 2016 season, and also led them to the playoffs in 2017 and 2020 as well.
- Warner accumulated 4,014 runs for SRH and requires just 133 runs to amass 2,000 IPL runs for Delhi Capitals. Touching the milestone would make the Australian only the second cricketer after Shikhar Dhawan to accumulate 2,000 runs for two separate franchises. The two have also played together for the Hyderabad-based franchise.

- Pakistani cricketer Babar Azam, Warner, and his former Australian teammate Aaron Finch all own eight T20 tons. Chris Gayle (22) is the only player with the highest number of slammers in the format. The upcoming IPL season could help Warner become the sole owner of the second position.
