Rajkumar Hirani Waited 20 Years to Work with Shah Rukh Khan
Having fallen in love with Shah Rukh Khan’s charm, director Rajkumar Hirani, who received acclaim for 3 Idiots, waited for 20 years to work with the superstar.
The filmmaker revealed that when he was studying at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and watched a series called Circus. “I vividly remember the scene including the camera angle and where one actor was performing and delivering a monologue. I didn’t know who he was but I loved her performance.”
Hirani shared that he told himself that once he passed out from school, he would approach the actor and make a film. “It took me two years to graduate from the film institute and by that time, Shah Rukh Khan had become a huge star. So, I had to wait for 20 years to collaborate with him on a film.”
In Love with Shah Rukh Khan’s Charm
The Munna Bhai MBBS director is in love with Shah Rukh Khan’s charm. “I was enamoured by his charm. I would put on an eye mask and earplugs when he was giving a shot. Once he finished, my assistant would tell me ‘Sir shot khatam ho gaya hai (sir, the shot is over)’, and then I would open my eyes.”
Hirani commends the Pathaan actor, whom he has worked on newly released Dunki, as an amazing actor and an even better person.
Rajkumar Hirani on Dunki
Renowned for his successful track record at the box office, Hirani is not at all worried about Dunki’s opening figures being less than his last hit Sanju, which starred Ranbir Kapoor. He said that it’s only the first film when a director doesn’t feel the pressure.
“It’s an achievement when a director finishes and releases his first film. Post that, there is always pressure for success but I have never succumbed to it. I have never followed any trend as I feel it’s a trap. My idea is still to entertain the audience and make films that we believe in.”
Dunki also has Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal in special appearance.
