Bangalore -The vacancy for the head coach of the Men’s Indian cricket team was hanging on the wall till Rahul Dravid decided to fill the shoes. The ventran applied for the position on Tuesday, a day after India’s defeat against Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Post the latest tournament, Dravid will be gearing up to take over the position from Ravi Shastri. Dravid is presently serving as the head of National Cricket Academy but soon will be seen down the coach’s hat and along with him, Paras Mhmbrey will be appointed as the bowling coach replacing Bharat Arun.
Earlier it was reported that there were a series of meetings that convinced Dravid to take over the position. Sourav Ganguly, BCCI President, and former Indian captain played a key role in convincing Dravid for the role. The deal was finalized in front of BCCI secretary Jay Shah in October.

As per a report. Dravid and his support staff will be given a two years contract till 2023 World Cup for which the former cricketer will be getting Rs 10 crore. Any official announcement on the fielding coach is yet to be made. Till now the board seems satisfied with the result in this department.
After Dravid, BCCI is looking to fill the position of NCA head by bringing Anil Kumble or VVS Laxman on board. Laxman was also reportedly the backup for Dravid if he had declined to head Team India for the upcoming years but with his acceptance to the offer, Laxman is being considered for the NCA position.
Dravid’s appointment has made many players and cricket experts happy as there were attempts to bring him on board earlier also but of no use. Recent former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar backed the appointment of Dravid saying that he is confident that with Dravid’s application, BCCI doesn’t even need to consider anyone else. “Without a doubt. I don’t think anyone else even needs to apply anymore. The way he has handled the Under-19 team, given them direction, the manner in which he has worked at the NCA, just shows his capability, not only inside the ground but out of it as well,” Gavaskar said. He also added that Dravid is excellent in administrative duties hence the application from his side was merely a formality.
