R Ashwin makes it to the top 5 all-rounders list, Pant receives a career-best ranking
Ravichandran Ashwin is known for his heroics with the bowl but few of his last matches saw him do exceptionally well with the bat too. This includes his match-winning knock against England in the second test between the Indian and the English side.
With the win, India and England tied for the ongoing test series and the second match saw a huge victory by the Indian side with 317-run. This win and Ashwin’s contribution to the win made an impact on the ICC test players ranking and the bowler managed to enter the top-5 ranking of the all-rounder’s list.
Other than Ashwin, Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and explosive opening batsman Rohit Sharma also saw a positive impact in their rankings. Pant made progress with his 58 not out knocks in the first innings and is currently at his career-best position. The 25-year-old at the 11th position and the left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav is at the 50th position.
Rohit Sharma jumped by 9 ranks with his 161 against England in the first innings. He currently stands at 14th position. In 2019, Sharma achieved the best ranking with 10 rank on the list. Other than Sharma, Axar Patel has also entered the ranking as he finds himself a position at 68th place.
The biggest victory has come for Ashwin as the unpredictable cricketer scored a century in the second innings of the second test against England. The Chennai-based cricketer saw the time of his life as he rocked with the bat as well as the bowl. He took eight wickets in the match but remained in the seventh position of the rankings.
Ashwin has been performing exceptionally well in the recent matches be it the series against England or the one against Australia, where the gifted bowler managed to give sustainability to the team with his approach with the bat and led the team of young bowlers to attain victory against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series.
