Poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Tuesday held a meeting with former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the national capital. This development has led to speculations across the political spectrum about Kishor joining the Congress party to take on the BJP and other factors.
Earlier, the election strategist held several rounds of talks with NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai to discuss Maharashtra state politics and other ongoing developments.
The meeting has come at a time when Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are attempting to resolve the difference between Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh and senior leader Navjot Singh Sidhu within Congress’ state unit.
As per media reports, Congress’s Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat and AICC general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal were also present during the meeting between Kishor and Rahul Gandhi at his 12 Tughlaq Lane residence.
Sources have told media that the prime focus of the meeting was to resolve the tussle between the Punjab CM and Navjot Singh Sidhu ahead of the assembly elections in the state.
Notably, Prashant Kishor is Captain Amarinder Singh’s Principal Advisor for the Punjab assembly elections scheduled to take place next year.
Reports are also rife that Kishor’s meeting with the Gandhis catered to more issues than just the assembly elections in Punjab.
Congress sources have stated that the poll strategist can act as a key advisory for leading Opposition parties to tackle the ruling BJP in the 2024 general elections in the country.
Meanwhile, the poll strategist has made no comments regarding his involvement with the opposition front to take on the NDA in the next general election.
After the successful feat in poll campaigning for TMC chief Mamata Banerjee in the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal, Kishor hinted at quitting poll strategizing.
Speaking to NDTV in May 2021, Kishor had said that he does not want to remain in the field, adding that he wants to pursue something else.
“I have had enough. I have been doing this for 8-9 years. It’s a tough job. I want to do something else in life. I don’t have to do this all my life and I have been saying this in every conversation I am having with people,” he said, as quoted by media reports.
Kishor played an instrumental role in the massive victory of the Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal elections earlier this year.
