PM Pushes For Teen Vaccination Overdrive in ‘Mission Mode’

Speaking at a Covid-19 review meet virtually, PM Narendra Modi has sought a quick drive to vaccinate teenagers calling it a ‘mission mode’. Mr. Modi intends to hold a similar meeting with Chief minister later in the week as well.

With the Omicron variant spreading like wild fire, there is focus in keeping medical facilities in top health as well. Presiding over the meeting were Union home and health ministers who informed Mr. Modi that at least 31percent teenagers in the age group of 15-18 years have already been vaccinated.

The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Top officials that were a part of the meeting included the Aviation Secretary, Home Secretary, Cabinet Secretary, and Chairman of the Railway Board, among others. During the review meeting on Sunday, the Prime Minister directed officials to ensure adequate health infrastructure at the district level and accelerate the vaccination drive for teenagers in “mission mode”.

PM also intends to preside over such meetings with various states to see their preparedness to fight the surge in Delta and Omicron variant in the third wave of Covid-19 in India.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, meanwhile, chaired a meeting of the health ministers of five states, namely, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat and Maharashtra, and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Currently, a precaution dose drive has started for healthcare workers, frontline workers and 60-plus individuals as Covid cases surge across the country.

Nearly 1,80,000 new Covid cases and 410 fresh Omicron infections were detected in the last 24 hours, said Union Health Ministry data on Monday morning. The national tally of this highly transmissible variant of the Coronavirus has climbed to 4,033. Of the total, 1,552 people have recovered from the new strain nationwide so far, the data said.
