PM Extends Relief Fund To Katra Stampede Victim Families

On the first day of the new year, a stampede has already claimed unfortunate lives in the holy place of Katra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sadness over the unfortunate incident, stating that he was extremely saddened by the loss of lives during this accident.

Extending his condolence, Prime Minister Modi has ordered immediate possible support with medical assistance and other forms of assistance to all the effected. “Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon,” the Indian PM tweeted.

This unfortunate incident happened at the Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan, in Jammu Kashmir’s Katra area where 12 people were reported dead and several other injured, during a stampede. As per sources, the stampede was caused by a heavy rush of devotees on New Year’s Day.

While sharing his grief over this accident, PM Modi announced ex-gratia of Rs. 2 Lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and 50,000 to the injured from the PMNRF.

There was heavy rush at the Hindu shrine due to the first day of the New year, worshippers entered the shrine in masses as the clock ticked midnight, later at around 2.45 am, an argument broke out between two groups of devotees, leading to pushing each other, which further created a deadly stampede.
