The film “Adipurush,” directed by Om Raut and featuring actors Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Kriti Sanon, encountered trouble shortly after its release.
Vishnu Gupta, the National President of the Hindu Sena, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the movie, claiming that it has ridiculed the Hindu epic Ramayana, Hindu deities, and Hindu culture.
The PIL seeks the removal of objectionable scenes related to Hindu gods Ram, Ravana, Sita, and Hanuman. It alleges that the portrayal of these deities in the film is inaccurate, inappropriate, and inconsistent with the depictions found in the Ramayana.
The plea argues that Hindus hold a distinct perspective on the images of Lord Ram, Sita, and Hanuman, and any bad alteration or tampering with those legendary characters by filmmakers would violate their fundamental rights.
The petition asserts that the scenes in the film present religious characters in a disrespectful manner, insulting Hindu civilization, religious figures, and idols.
Vishnu Gupta criticizes the movie for distorting the image of revered Hindu deities, emphasizing that their dialogues, hairstyle, beard, and dress should adhere to the depictions established in the epics.
He believes that any deviation by filmmakers and actors would hurt the sentiments of worshippers, devotees, and religious believers.
The Hindu Sena urges the Indian government and the Central Board of Film Certification to prevent the public exhibition of any feature film that may disturb public order and the secular fabric of society.
The PIL argues that the film’s distorted depiction of Hindu religious figures violates freedom of conscience and practice, as well as the freedom to manage religious affairs guaranteed under Article 26 of the Indian Constitution.
Meanwhile, film critics and viewers have expressed disappointment with “Adipurush.” Renowned film critic Taran Adarsh gave the movie a 1.5-star rating, calling it an “epic disappointment” that fails to meet expectations.
Many viewers and bloggers have also voiced their displeasure, criticizing aspects such as cringe-worthy dialogues and the crude portrayal of Hindu mythological characters. The misrepresentation of the Hindu epic Ramayana in the film has particularly appalled audiences.

The PIL argues that “Adipurush” has tampered with the facts and descriptions of religious legends and characters as depicted in Maharishi Valmiki’s Ramayana and Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas.
The petition has been filed on behalf of the public, aiming to protect their interests when they may not have the means or legal knowledge to approach the court themselves.
