When health advisory comes from one of the most sorted business conglomerates in India, everyone’s ears are tuned.  The latest news doing rounds is how Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma posted a startling message on twitter saying that he had just attend the ‘longest ever zoom call; seven hours and 45 minutes.’

Vijay Shekhar Sharma shared his thoughts on his ‘marathon call’. Since sharing, it has already garnered 4000 so likes with funny comments as well. But then, he attributed it to the thought that ‘it takes time to build something beautiful.’ He was asking people about their thoughts on ‘marathon discussions’.

But the responses have varied from people asking for Bluetooth earphone advice, to students tweeting how they are stuck in front of screens for close to seven hours themselves, to other feeling there is something wrong if you have to spend more than 15 minutes on zoom call. One commented on how poor the work culture must be for Paytm employees, if someone is stuck in a call for seven hours straight.

Someone landed up asking if Mr. Sharma actually had time to tweet or was someone doing it for him? Now, so many answers weren’t explained either.

The phenomenon of screen fatigue is real and effective everyone across age groups. There is an increasing virtual meeting burnout that has affected the mental health of many professionals worldwide. While not classified as a medical condition, burnout is categorized as an “occupational phenomenon” as per International Classification of Diseases under World Health Organization (WHO).

According to its definition, burnout is a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterized by three dimensions, which are feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion; increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one’s job; and reduced professional efficacy.
