Along with his tweet, was attached Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi’s article on actual numbers of vaccinations done and the ground reality. It cites a graph, on the number of people yet to be vaccinated even with at least one dose, a distant cry from the actual goal.
As per Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday, India has administered a cumulative of 103.53 crores (1,03,53,25,577) vaccination doses so far, out of which 55,89,124 jabs were given yesterday. Spearheaded by the Centre, a one billion mark crossed last week, the message from the PM desks went, “Today, this day of October 21, 2021, has been recorded in history. The nation (India) now has strong armor of 100 crore Covid vaccine doses to combat this biggest pandemic in 100 years. India has crossed the 100-crore vaccine dose mark sometime back… I express my gratitude to all the vaccine manufacturing companies of the country, workers engaged in vaccine transportation, health sector professionals engaged in vaccine development.”
As per confirmed reports, in the next phase of the drive from March 1, people over 60 years and those aged 45 and above with specified co-morbid conditions were included in the drive. Vaccination for all people aged over 45 years began on April 1. On May 1, the government launched the vaccination drive for all above 18. The Opposition party has called the vaccination drive an eyewash with figures being pumped up and ground reality being very different.
