UP and Maharashtra took lead in announcing night curfew fearing the spread of Omicron, whereas Delhi and Karnataka announced fresh restrictions on December 26th.
Each state has imposed rules to restrict the spread of viruses in its own way. On Friday the government of Maharashtra imposed fresh instructions banning the assembly of five persons in a group from 9 am to 6 pm in public places. Whereas the government of Delhi announced a night curfew starting from Monday (27 December). The duration suggested for night curfew will be from 11 PM and last till 5 AM.
The government of Uttar Pradesh announced a night curfew from Friday onwards. Up’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath has issued orders to initiate strict measures. He suggested a state-wide night curfew from December 25, applicable from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. in view of a rise in Omicron cases in several States. Also, Karnataka has announced a night curfew for ten days from December 28 from 10 pm to 5 am.
Where-as in Mumbai, The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced to ban all the New Year celebrations in Mumbai, whether it is in closed or open spaces. The order came into force from midnight on December 25.
“…No New Year celebration programme/function/gathering/party/activity or happening in any closed or open space shall be allowed in municipal limits of Greater Mumbai,” said the order issued by BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.
In the Northern state of Haryana, night curfew was announced from 11 pm to 5 am from Saturday onwards. The government in Haryana has also announced that 200 people can gather at an indoor event, whereas 300 people can do it outdoors. The announcement made on Saturday is applicable till January 5th. In Madhya Pradesh, an announcement was made on Thursday to impose a night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am as a precautionary measure. In Gujarat, the curfew is applicable from 11 pm to 5 am, and on Friday it was decided to extend the duration of night curfew in eight cities by two hours.
