‘OMG 2’ Film Gets ‘A’ Certificate, Censor Board Demands 35 Cuts

The film “OMG 2,” starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi, has received an “A” certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

This means that the film is suitable for ‘adults only’ and not for children. The CBFC demanded around 35 cuts in the film before granting the certificate.

The movie, which is a satirical comedy-drama and a sequel to the 2012 hit film “OMG – Oh My God,” features Akshay Kumar portraying the character of Lord Shiva. However, the CBFC directed the makers to change Kumar’s character to that of a messenger of Lord Shiva.

The CBFC has been extra cautious in certifying films lately due to recent controversies surrounding films like “Adipurush” and “Oppenheimer.”

The revising committee of the CBFC reviewed “OMG 2” and asked for several modifications to scenes, dialogues, and characters.

After two weeks of discussions and revisions, the film was given an “A” certificate without any further cuts.

Initially, the makers were considering a U/A certificate, which would allow children accompanied by adults to watch the film.

However, due to the CBFC’s requirements for many cuts to get the U/A certificate, the makers decided to go with the “A” certificate to preserve the film’s integrity.

Despite the certification process, the film’s release date remains unchanged, and it is scheduled to release on August 11. The makers are preparing for an aggressive marketing campaign, and the final trailer is expected to be released in the coming days.

Additionally, the film faced controversy from a priest at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar temple, who demanded the deletion of certain scenes shot in the shrine premises.

He expressed concerns that the film might hurt religious sentiments and threatened nationwide protests if his demands were not met.

The incident seems suspicious as the film was almost getting an ‘U/A’ certificate but now the censor board has to give it an ‘A’ (Adult-Only) certificate, even after the 35 cuts. The truth will appear on 11st August.
