Mohali Has Party Variety Contesting For Assembly Elections

As the scene is warming up for the Punjab Assembly elections, the Mohali constituency is definitely going to experience a change in their setting.  There are more than expected contenders in the fray. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) might have been in the limelight in 2017. But this time, even Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and BJP are going to be fighting it out in the ring.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) this year seems to have shaken hands with BSP and will be sharing its seats. SAD has recently lost a young leader to a shootout, who would have probably rejoined the party later at some point of time.

It has been noticed that while Congress has found it difficult to keep its leadership intact, BJP has been gradually moving in to increase its area of influence across Congress-dominated states. Mohali has been Congress-dominated ever since the constituency birth in 2012. BAD has repeatedly failed to place a locally grown politician and hopes its alliance with BSP will give it some headway into prominence in its own constituency.

Mudslinging has already started to strengthen its position. BAD is known to have released a ‘Jantak Chargesheet’ highlighting failures by AAP. As of now, AAP has only been holding the fort in New Delhi. It has been in running since 2012, and is now looking ahead to expand its area of interest.

Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has held the position as MLA for two consecutive terms. He belongs to the Congress Party. BJP and SAD have not seen eye to eye over the farm laws. While the investment into Balwant Singh Ramoowalia went as a waste, his daughter Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia, is said to have joined the BJP side to invest her energies into solving the deadlock between the farmer community and Narendra Modi government

There is a lot of action happening in Mohali and BJP has a stronghold already as the previous five members of SAD have also shifted their allegiance to BJP now. Former mayor Kulwant Singh, who lost the Mohali civic body elections, could also contest this time. He could give Balbir Singh Sidhu a hard time in the forthcoming race for the same position Mr. Sidhu has held for two tenures.
