Sukanta Majumdar, President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of West Bengal, and other BJP leaders from the state unit, have said that the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government will fall soon in the state because various ruling party MLAs will withdraw their support.
On Sunday, West Bengal BJP president spoke to the media outside the party office in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state. He reportedly said, “TMC can topple any time soon within five to six months. How does a state government function? By the support from the elected MLAs. A large number of legislators may withdraw their support.”
Shantanu Thakur, a Member of Lok Sabha for Bangaon and the Minister of State for Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways of India, has also claimed that the TMC will no longer be in power within a few months.
While addressing a public meeting at Gaighata in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Saturday, he accused the TMC of using violence on Opposition workers during the panchayat elections. He said, “We would have got ten times more votes if the TMC and its goons did not initiate terror on BJP workers.” He further said that such incidents affect democracy in the state.
Subrata Thakur, a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Gaighata, accused the TMC of torturing many BJP workers. He also said, “The TMC government will be ousted from power in a year. Whether you are police officers or government officials, no one will be able to help you once that happens.”

The TMC denied such claims. Kunal Ghosh, TMC state general secretary, “They are making wild predictions. I want people to let them continue with such predictions as they will never come true. BJP has no base in Bengal.”
