Is Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi Facing Legal Trouble Over Its Title?

A dispute over the title of Sivakarthikeyan’s next movie Parasakthi which was formally revealed with a trailer on Wednesday has put it in the public eye.
Based on a true story, the film, which was directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by Dawn Pictures, stars Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela.
Fans speculated about the plot of the movie as soon as the teaser and title were made public on social media. But when actor, producer and director Vijay Antony issued a statement in the evening asserting rights to the title, what had begun as exhilaration quickly fell into controversy.
About six months ago, Vijay Antony’s production company, Vijay Antony Pictures registered Parasakthi as a Telugu title according to a letter he shared from the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC).
Official letters from the Tamil and Telugu Producers Councils stating that they had the rights to the title in both languages were posted by Dawn Pictures in response to his claim.
By releasing a poster for his own movie, Shakti Tirumagan in Tamil and Paraashakthi in Telugu, Vijay Antony further inflamed the situation.
In the midst of the debate, Sivakarthikeyan, Sudha Kongara and Dawn Pictures received well wishes from AVM Productions, the company that produced the 1952 classic Parasakthi.
Renowned for its compelling story and Sivaji Ganesan’s outstanding performance, the first Parasakthi is regarded as a classic in Tamil film. The film which was written by Kalaignar Karunanidhi depicted the hardships of a Tamil family and was set during World War II.
There is still a lot of anticipation in Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi despite the current title issue.
