The Bharatiya Janata Party is extending its wings in every possible way in Assam. Assam is one of those states with an already powerful presence of the ruling party and hence the Indian National Congress might be struggling to find its way to the political sphere of the country.
Things became all the more evident after the drama unfolded in two of the Rajya Sabha seats in Assam on Thursday. A lot depended on these two seats despite being known to the fact that other upper house seats have already gone in favor of the known.
Ahead of Congress making its place in the North-Eastern state, Aam Aadmi Party has emerged to be in a stringer position. BJP has anyways cemented its place nudging the 100-mark while AAP has come out making strong gains in Punjab.
In the recently held Rajya Sabha contest, the BJP won both the seats which essentially canceled any remaining hopes of Congress to bounce back.
The highlight was that without not having the numbers to its side BJP’s Pabitra Margherita and coalition partner United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL) candidate Rwngwra Narzary won the biennial elections against Ripun Bora of Congress who miserably failed to secure the required votes. Talking about the victory, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We won both the Rajya Sabha seats from Assam (one by the BJP and other by UPPL, our partner) by a huge margin of 11 and 9 votes respectively.”
