IPL 2025: All You Need to Know for This Year

The largest T20 franchise tournament in the world, the Indian Premier League (IPL), is back for an 18th season starting Saturday, March 22. Ten teams will vie for the desired trophy, with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) looking to defend their title.
Tournament Format & Schedule
The group stage, from March 22 till May 18, will comprise 70 matches played at 13 venues, while the next stage (of knockout) will begin on May 20, while the finals are set for May 25 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The teams are divided into two groups of five. Each group plays a total of 14 matches. The four top teams will move to the playoffs, where the top two teams will face each other in ‘Qualifier 1’, with the winner going straight into the finals. The third and fourth teams will meet in ‘Eliminator’, with the victor going on to face whoever loses from ‘Qualifier 1’ to determine who occupies the second place in the final.
