IPL 2021: “We couldn’t qualify for playoff due to collective failure of the team”, says Rohit Sharma

UAE – Mumbai Indians failed to qualify for the IPL 2021 playoff. However, they ended with a big win on Friday against Rajasthan Royals at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

MI captain Rohit Sharma said the main reason behind us not qualifying for the playoffs is that we didn’t play as a team. I wouldn’t pinpoint individuals in the group; instead, I would say it was a collective failure, he added.

However, 5-time IPL-winning captain also said that the franchise and its fans would be proud of all the outstanding achievements by MI over the years.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, MI captain Rohit Sharma said that the team had performed here in these conditions before; it’s just that we weren’t able to achieve the same results this time as before.

We had won against Delhi in the first half of the season in India. But unfortunately, due to the coronavirus surge in the nation, there was a break, and all the players had to return to their countries.

Though we have been five-time IPL champions, unfortunately, we could not execute the same this time due to the inconsistency in our performances, Rohit added. If you continue to be inconsistent, it makes it impossible to qualify for the playoffs.

Rohit said he would not like to take away anything from the guys as MI has won two back-to-back tournaments before.

On Friday, MI won the toss and made a mammoth total of 235 runs which was very tough for RR to achieve.

There were a couple of fine performances today, especially from Suryakumar Yadav scoring a massive 82 runs in 40 balls and Ishan Kishan scoring 84 runs off 32 balls. Ishan scored the fastest 50 of these seasons in just 16 balls.

After the game, Ishan Kishan thanked all his fans in his tweet; we gave everything we had tonight, and we have so much to learn from this season. Thank you to all the fans for your constant support. #OneFamily

MI fans were pleased with the win against RR, an incredible and groundbreaking score, also enjoyed an exciting match.
