On Tuesday, Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni clarified the reason for his choice to bat at number 7 place against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2020. He said that he wanted to give opportunities to others as he hadn’t batted in quite a while. He also wished to try various things like providing an opportunity for new players like Sam Curran and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Dhoni came to bat when CSK was 114 for 5 in the fourteenth over and the match was beyond their control. He scored 29 off 17 balls with 3 sixes. Faf du Plessis also played a great knock of 72 off 27 balls; however, it wasn’t sufficient for CSK to win the match.
CSK’s opening batsman Murali Vijay and Shane Watson had contributed 56 runs in 6.3 overs, however, Dhoni stated in the presentation ceremony that his team required a better start.
Mahi said we need to give full credit to RR bowlers as well. They were bowling the right lengths and made it challenging for us.
Our spinners made the mistake to bowling full length. If we would’ve restricted them to 200, it would’ve been a decent game, expressed Dhoni.”
