An indigenous breed of dog from Karnataka called the Mudhol Hound has been added to the Special Protection Group (SPG) team, which is in charge of providing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with security.
It is the first canine of Indian descent to join the Army. This breed is renowned for its guarding, hunting, and agility abilities.

The Canine Research and Information Center (CRIC) at Thimmapur in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka was visited by SPG representatives in April of this year.
They chose two puppies for training after expressing a concern in the Mudhol Hound breed.
After taking into account the survival of the Rampur greyhound from Uttar Pradesh and the Rajapalayam dog breed from Tamil Nadu, PM Modi’s security team later confirmed their choice.
The kingdom of Mudhol, whose kings were the first to breed them, is where this breed acquired its name.
These canines can reach a height of 72 centimeters and weigh 20 to 22 kg. They look physically slender with lengthy legs. They have outstanding agility, stamina, a strong sense of smell, and good eyesight.
The Indian National Kennel Club, the nation’s registry for purebred canines, has acknowledged the Mudhol Hound.
The Mudhol Hounds are thought to have been created by Raja Malojirao Ghorpade of the Mudhol kingdom in the Deccan.

During his journey to England, he gave these dogs to King George V as well, which is how the breed earned its name.
These dogs are very watchful because they have long-range vision. Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC) taught them to detect explosives for the first time in 2016.
They are also receiving training from the National Security Guard (NSG) to monitor enemy border movements. They will be part of the canine force of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
PM Modi made the first reference to the Mudhol Hound breed in 2018 at a rally at Jamkhandi, in the Bagalkot region of Karnataka.

He had said that “a fresh battalion of Mudhol breed canines were heading out to safeguard the nation.”
He stated, “Among the Indian breeds, the Mudhol Hound and Himachali Hound are of great pedigree,” in his 2020 Mann Ki Baat address.
