Prime Minister Narendra Modi shares the news on his Twitter handles marking all the achievements of the official.
He also said, “As India’s first CDS, Gen Rawat worked on diverse aspects relating to our armed forces including defense reforms. He brought with him a rich experience of serving in the Army. India will never forget his exceptional service.”
The Indian Air Force was the first one to confirm the news by saying that the Air Force Group Captain is no more with us. They said that they regret to inform that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs. Madhulika Rawat, and 11 others have died in the crash.
The information about the crash occurred at around 2 pm today when the IAF had confirmed that the Mi-17 V5 helicopter carrying General Rawat met with an accident near Tamil Nadu’s town. All the 13 passengers were headed to the Defense Services Staff College in Wellington where Rawat would have addressed the faculty and the students.
