Indian Premier League 2022: Eight Players Of The U-19 WC Winning Squad May Not Be Allowed Into The Auction

Eight players of the India U-19 World Cup-winning team may not be allowed in the upcoming IPL (Indian Premier League) mega auction. After winning the final match, most players were hoping they would now get the IPL contract. However, the players will have to wait for some more time to get their name in the IPL auction pool.

Reportedly, the players don’t meet the criteria set by the Indian cricket board. As per the criteria, only those U-19 players who have played at least one first-class match or List A game can enrol in the mega auction. Even if they do not have first-class match experience, they should have turned 19 before the auction to be eligible for the mega auction.

Some of the players who are not eligible to participate in the auction are the wicket keeper Dinesh Bana, India’s under-19 vice-captain, batsman Shaik Rasheed, left-arm pacer Ravi Kumar, Nishant Sindhu, Siddarth Yadav, opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Manav Parakh, and Garv Sangwan.

Veteran BCCI administrator Ratnakar Shetty said, “It is unfortunate that these boys were unable to play List-A tournaments as U-19 and List A games were played simultaneously.”

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is yet to take a final call on this matter. However, many members of the board feel an exception can be made for some players because hardly any domestic cricket has been played in the last two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The IPL 2022 Player Auction pool has a total of 590 cricketers.  The two-day Mega Auction of IPL will see 10 Teams bidding for some of the finest cricketers of the world. The Mega Auction will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. The players’ list for auction incorporates 228 capped, 355 uncapped, and 7 associate players.

The IPL’s two new teams; Ahmedabad and Lucknow, also named their draft picks ahead of the auction for the upcoming IPL season.
