Amid the surging Covid-19 cases, the Indian government has approved two vaccines and one antiviral drug for emergency usage so that they can strengthen the fight against the pandemic.
The Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday that it has authorized approval of two vaccines and one antiviral drug to promote vaccination during the pandemic time.
Mansukh Mandaviya made an official statement on Twitter stressing, “Further strengthening the fight against Covid-19, CDSCO, health ministry has given 3 approvals in a single day for CORBEVAX vaccine, COVOVAX vaccine, antiviral drug Molnupiravir.”
He also added that the usage is strictly meant for emergency usage. The vaccines have approved the two vaccines only after the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) set up for the pandemic of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) granted the permission of the vaccine.
COVOVAX will be produced by the Serum Institute of India (SII) while the second vaccine, Corbevax, will be made by Biological-E.
The health minister today said that the latter will be the country’s first indigenously developed RBD protein sub-unit in its fight against the virus. India has till now approved eight vaccines for emergency use. This includes Covishield, Covaxin, Sputnik V, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson and ZyCoV-D .
