Indian golfer Aditi Ashok becomes first golfer from the country to qualify for Tokyo Olympics

Aditi Ashok has become the first Indian golfer to qualify for the much-awaited Tokyo Olympics which are scheduled from July this year after being postponed from last owing to Covid-19. 

This is not the first time that the young golfer will be a part of the Olympics as an event during the last edition of the games held in Rio, the golfer became the youngest to be present at the scene with 18 years and four months. For this, she will obviously have a richer experience with her having prepared for five years. 

She qualified through an event where she finished 45th to make the cut. The golfer said that it is always better to be called a two-time Olympian rather than a one-time. Ashok also added that she is excited to test herself for Tokyo and can’t wait to go to Tokyo now. 

“I am honoured to represent my country for the second time at the Olympic Games. I was confident that I would make it to the Tokyo Olympic women’s golf roster,” said the golfer. She also said that she now wishes to give her best on all four days and do the best possible for the country. 

She also recalled her previous experience at the Olympics saying that she believes that there is something that will surely help her perform better this year. As she recalled her Rio days, she stressed that she did well in the first two days but when it came to the last two ones, she did not do well.

According to the sportsperson, she is more mature now as she is five years older than the last time so she would be able to do better this time as her experience will help her. “I play professionally on two tours: LPGA (in the USA) and LET (in Europe). When Covid hit in 2020, the whole world came to halt,” she said, adding that due to Covid-19, her preparations and practice sessions were also hampered last year.
