India Wins 9 Medals To Top Asian Para Archery Championships
In the world of archery, we’re celebrating a remarkable achievement by our Indian archers at the Asian Para Archery Championships. India, showcasing sheer talent and determination, has topped the medal table with an impressive haul of nine medals.
In total, our team won four gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal. This fantastic performance placed India at the top, surpassing South Korea, which finished in second place with five medals.
The star of the event was World No. 5 Rakesh Kumar. He led the Indian contingent with a hat-trick of gold medals, demonstrating exceptional skill and composure.
Rakesh Kumar, a 38-year-old Hangzhou Para Asian Games silver medallist, showed his class in the men’s compound open category. He clinched his first gold in a nail-biting final, overcoming a two-point deficit to secure a win over Indonesia’s Ken Swagumilang with a score of 145-144.
Rakesh wasn’t done there. He teamed up with Suraj Singh to win the men’s compound open team event. They defeated the team from Chinese Taipei with a score of 147-144. Rakesh’s third gold came in the mixed team event, where he partnered with Sheetal Devi. They triumphed over an Indonesian team with a score of 154-149.
India’s fourth gold medal came in the women’s compound open team event. The duo of Sheetal and Jyoti showed their dominance by thrashing Korea’s Jin Young Jeong and Na Mi Choi with a score of 148-137.
Apart from the golds, India also secured four silver medals across various events. The women’s recurve open team lost a close tie-breaker to Indonesia.
The men’s recurve teams in both the open and W1 categories settled for silver against South Korea. And Sheetal Devi narrowly missed another gold, settling for silver in a shoot-off against Singapore’s Nur Syahidah Alim. Finally, in the women’s individual compound category, Sarita won a bronze medal, defeating her teammate Jyoti.
