India introduces Microchips in e-passport to fasten the process

In order to fasten the service, India is looking to introduce microchips in e-passports, confirms the Ministry of External Affairs. The ministry said that the ambitious project will target the time criticals and will ensure speedy service in the process.

The most notable feature in the system will be that it will include the use of biometrics and artificial intelligence in the passport relay services which will promote smooth movement of citizens at nearly all immigration joints around the world.

Till now, the nation has issued about 20,000 official and diplomatic e-Passports and all of those contain an embedded electronic microprocessor chip. For the service, the Indian government will be partnering with Tata Consultancy Services to establish an ecosystem of state-of-the-art digitally.

“We propose to pursue the manufacture of e-passports on priority so that a new passport booklet with advanced security features can be rolled out in the near future,” Jaishankar stated earlier as he talked about the scheme.

The progress of the whole idea will start with the TCS digitizing many passport related steps under the Passport Seva Program in the first phase and the process will also include bringing 93 Passport Seva Kendras into existence.

Other than that, the Indian government will also be introducing 428 post offices, 36 passport offices which will be integrated with the Passport Seva system. This new phase will also witness the information technology companies to develop new found solutions so that electronic passports can be issued smoothly.
