At a time like this, the country is looking east and expecting help from its neighbors. Taking note of the looming crisis in the landlocked country, friendly nations such as the United Arab Emirates and India have stepped up their efforts to support the needs of affected groups in Afghanistan. Significantly, the UAE has ensured all possible measures to provide medical and food aid to people in need.
Known for its global humanitarian assistance, the UAE has been continued by the side of the Afghani people during these challenging times. UAE authorities have taken reliable measures to ensure that Afghani and foreign families stuck in Afghanistan get shelter in the Emirates. The UAE has pledged AED 184 million (US$50 million) worth of humanitarian projects in Afghanistan to provide much-needed help to build a sustainable future for the Afghan people.
During the COVID-19 crisis, the UAE sent tonnes of medical supplies and food aid to Kabul to cater to all possible needs of the Afghan people. This aid has been spearheaded by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment with the aim of easing the suffering of the people of Afghanistan and provide them a good standard of living.
Notably, the UAE has not been alone in these humanitarian aid efforts. India has also offered its help and assistance in several developmental projects in Afghanistan. Addressing the SCO-CSTO Outreach Summit on September 17, PM Modi expressed India’s commitment to ensure the smooth delivery of food material and medicines to the Afghan people.

“India has been Afghanistan’s trusted partner for development and humanitarian help. There has been a special relationship between Indians and Afghans. All regional and global initiatives for Afghan society’s help will have India’s full support,” Modi had said.
Earlier this month, PM Modi held talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan about regional developments in view of the change in power in Afghanistan. Time and again India has shown appreciation towards the UAE for its humanitarian work in Afghanistan.
With the changing dynamics in the world order, it has become important for New Delhi and Abu Dhabi to boost their bilateral partnership and enhance aid and supply of medical and food aid to the crisis-hit country. Established on the foundation of mutual trust and cooperation, the UAE-India friendship has grown exponentially in recent years. Last week, the UAE and India celebrated this friendship with the launch of negotiations for a free trade agreement with the aim of signing the beneficial Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by March 2022.
The UAE and India share common regional goals, with priority given to peace and stability in the region. Amid the surging difficulties for Afghanistan and its people, the two countries showed exceptional skills and expertise in managing any future crises.
