India And UAE Continue High-Level Visits, Collaborate To Address Global Issues

India, and the UAE have been strengthening their bilateral relationship through a series of high-level visits since July 2023. 

These visits have resulted in important agreements and discussions on various topics such as energy, education, healthcare, defense, and culture. 

5 High-Level Visits Since July 2023

The leaders of India and the UAE have been visiting each other a lot since July 2023, which shows the bilateral relationship of both countries is strengthening. Here are the important visits:

1. July 2023: The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, went to the UAE and signed three agreements on money, energy, and communication.
2. August 2023: The President of the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, visited India and signed agreements on defense, investment, and space cooperation.
3. November 2023: The Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas went to the UAE for a conference.
4. November 2023: The UAE Foreign Minister visited India to talk about important issues.
5. December 2023: Prime Minister Modi went back to the UAE for a forum and to meet with leaders.

Key Discussions In July 2023

On July 15, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UAE to make their relationship stronger. They talked about important things like energy, education, healthcare, food security, fintech, defense, and culture.

For energy, they agreed to work together on oil, gas, and renewable energy like solar power. They also talked about education and signed an agreement to open a campus of an Indian university in Abu Dhabi.

They discussed healthcare and wanted to work together on medical research and making medicine. They also talked about food security and the UAE promised to invest money in food parks in India.

Both countries agreed about fintech, which uses technology for banking and money. They wanted to make it easier to do business between the two countries.

They talked about defense and how they can work together to protect their countries. And finally, they talked about culture and how they can share their traditions and art.

Global Collaboration In G20 Summit & COP-28

The visits between India and the UAE were important because they allowed both countries to talk about working together on global issues. 

One of the main topics was climate change, as the UAE will be hosting a big conference called COP-28. India and the UAE agreed to work together to make the conference successful and to follow the rules of the Paris Agreement. 

The leaders of India and UAE also met in the grand global event of the G20 summit under the presidency of India.

Both countries have discussed other global issues like healthcare, food security, and sustainable development. They promised to fight against terrorism and to make sure the seas are safe. 

They also discussed ways to deal with rising prices for food and energy. These visits showed the world that India and the UAE are collaborating to solve global problems.

COP 28 World Climate Action Summit

In November 2023, Prime Minister Modi went to the UAE to attend the COP 28 World Climate Action Summit. He gave a speech at the opening session, where he talked about India’s efforts to use clean energy and reduce emissions. 

PM Modi also took part in three important events. Two of these events were co-hosted by India. One event focused on developing clean energy technologies, like solar power and green hydrogen. 

The other event discussed how climate change affects agriculture and looked for ways to produce food in a sustainable and climate-friendly way. 

Prime Minister Modi also had meetings with other world leaders to work together on climate action. He also started a movement called “Lifestyle for Environment” to encourage people to make climate-friendly choices.

India Supports UAE In SCO & BRICS

India has helped the UAE become part of important international organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS. 

The SCO focuses on regional security and cooperation, and India supported the UAE’s application to become an observer. This strengthens India’s partnership with the UAE within the SCO. 

BRICS is a group of countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. India supported the UAE’s inclusion in the BRICS+ outreach program, and the UAE joined the BRICS New Development Bank. 

India’s support helps the UAE gain recognition and engage with global players, while also promoting India’s vision for a diverse and cooperative world.

Defense Cooperation As Desert Cyclone

India and the UAE have been working together on defense cooperation, and they recently had their first joint army exercise called “Desert Cyclone.” 

The exercise took place in Rajasthan, India, and involved troops from both countries. They focused on practicing tactical maneuvers, counter-terrorism operations, and urban warfare simulations. 

The Desert Cyclone is a big step forward in their defense relationship and shows that they are working together on important issues like maritime security and counter-terrorism. 

They are also exploring collaborations in areas like military equipment, defense technology, and training programs. This cooperation could lead to joint patrols, intelligence sharing, and a more stable Indian Ocean region.
