On Tuesday, a report by ANI stated that the Mumbai Customs Department seized two watches because Pandya allegedly didn’t carry a bill for them. The cricketer was returning after the Men’s T20 World Cup series held in UAE.
On Tuesday, Pandya dismissed all the rumors and clarified that only one watch was worth 1.5 crores and taken by the Customs at the Mumbai International Airport for “appropriate valuation”.
Completely denying the accusations, Pandya stated on Twitter, “I voluntarily went to Customs Department at the Mumbai Airport to declare the watches carried by me and pay the essential customs duty.
He added that false stories have been circulating on social media regarding my declaration to customs at the Mumbai air terminal, and I want to explain what unfolded.
“I had voluntarily declared lawfully purchased items from Dubai and was prepared to pay whatever duty that required to be cleared. Therefore, I submitted the bills required by the Customs Department for the items. However, the Customs is conducting the thorough valuation for duty that I’ve already promised to pay,” he added.
Pandya clarified that only one watch was worth ₹ 1.5 crores and not ₹ 5 crores as it has been rumoured. I’m a law-abiding citizen, and I fully respect all administrative agencies.
I’ve guaranteed my full cooperation to the Mumbai Airport Customs Department to provide them with whatever document or information they require to clear this matter. All accusations against me of traversing any legal regulations are untrue,” he confirmed.
As per ANI news, Hardik Pandya’s elder brother, Krunal Pandya, was stopped by the Customs Department in 2020 at the Mumbai International Airport over the doubt of carrying undeclared gold and various valuables.
