A police case has been filed against hair stylist Jawed Habib for spitting on a woman’s head during a seminar in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The complaint has been filed by the woman on whose hair Habib spat during the seminar.
Reportedly, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under Sections 355 (assault) and 504 (causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the hairstylist at Mansurpur police station.
The video of the incident which took place during the seminar conducted by the hairstylist went viral on social media on Monday. Jawed Habib faced massive criticism because of the incident. Internet users bashed him for spitting on a woman’s head. Social media users wrote, “It’s unhygienic, unhealthy and puke worthy.”
In the video, it can be heard that Habib said to the audience, “If there is a shortage of water, use saliva.” The woman can be seen sitting on a chair on the stage when the hairstylist spits on her head. He further stated that her hair was dry.
However, Habib later apologized through a video and said it was a joke. The woman shared her experience on social media. She said, “From now onwards, I will go to my street-side barber for a haircut, but will not go to Habib.” She claimed that Habib spat on her head twice.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) also asked the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police to investigate the matter and take action against him. The commission demanded action against the hairstylist on its Twitter account. The chairperson of NWC, Rekha Sharma wrote to UP DGP to take appropriate action.
On Thursday, protests were also held against the hairdresser. Hindu activists held a protest against Jawed Habib. They demanded action against the hairstylist.
