Does the dream of Team India for the WTC is fading away with today’s massive victory of South Africa against SL?
It wasn’t a delightful match to witness by the Indian cricket fans in Adelaide against Australia. Many fans and cricket lovers had the conviction that team India looks even more stronger with its supreme lists of players (after the arrival of skipper Rohit) in the playing XI for the second test. But it all shattered when the Indian top order batsmen were ripped off with a piercing swing of “Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins” in both first and second innings respectively.
This terrific loss to Australia resonated on the table of WTC where team India was pulled down to the third spot even with the 110 points.
What happens to the dream of WTC of India?
WTC (World Test Championship) is one of the prestigious games in cricket especially for the test cricket format because it completely relies on patience, strategies, and executing the skills rightly. The third edition of this WTC commenced on June 16, 2023 and the final took place in 2025 at the most-famous Lord’s Stadium in London. The teams who are at the top two slots will get selected for the WTC and they meet at the final five day battle.
The title of the second edition slipped off from the hands of Team India against the long-term test cricket rivalry Australia in the 2023 final, with a 209 runs hard-hitting defeat. To pay back their rivalry, team India has been keen on their third edition WTC schedules. Currently, India went to Australia for the five crucial test matches which could decide their journey into the final in WTC.
With the triumphal feat in the second test against India, Australia took over the first place in the WTC table leaving India behind in the second position and also they equalled the game as 1-1 out of 5. Following this traumatic defeat, South Africa intimidated the Indian fans with their 2-0 victory in the two test matches against Sri Lanka in their home country. South Africa’s eminent spinner Keshav Maharaj wrapped the men of Sri Lanka during the second innings of the second test with his splendid 5-wicket haul.
This back to back bad tidings has reflected on the ICC’s table of WTC greatly and provoked a question within the minds of Indian fans “whether the men of Team India will lift the title of WTC this year?”
Name of the Team | Points | PTC – Percentage of Points |
South Africa | 76 | 63.33 |
Australia | 102 | 60.71 |
India | 110 | 57.29 |
Sri Lanka | 60 | 45.45 |
England | 114 | 45.24 |
Though both Sri Lanka and England don’t have much impact over team India’s dream to WTC, South Africa’s home matches against team Pakistan and Australia against India & Sri Lanka will definitely determine or intervene the final placements on the table. The Indian players are now forced to exhibit a tremendous come-back in their following test matches in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
