Dimuth Karunaratne Retirement: Ending the Career After 100th Test

Within his 100th Test match against Australia at Galle Dimuth Karunaratne officially retired from international cricket and left behind his career as a Sri Lankan opening batsman and former captain. At 36 years old Dimuth Karunaratne retires from international cricket after 14 years at the helm of Lankan cricket. His Test cricket performance lasted 7,172 matches at under 40 points with 16 centuries and 34 half-centuries.
Based on tests playing less frequently and his current poor performance Karunaratne made the choice to retire. The World Test Championship produces few bilateral series which makes it hard for Test players to play four Tests per year with good form. As a left-handed opener the athlete achieved significant results across ODI matches with 1,316 runs including one century and 11 half-centuries from his 50 games.
After his retirement, Karunaratne intends to migrate to Australia together with his family. Before ending his international cricket career Karunaratne will take part in his final first-class match as he leads his team Sinhalese Sports Club against NCC in SLC Major Club three-day tournament from February 14-16. Karunaratne ends his domestic career in 2008 when he plays his last match for Sri Lanka domestic cricket. When Karunaratne left the cricket field he took many strong performances to national support while playing for Sri Lanka.
