Controversy around the documentary by BBC on Jiah Khan’s death

Jiah Khan’s death: BBC has released a documentary ‘Death in Bollywood’ where the suicide of actress Jiah Khan has been brought into view of public eye. The documentary discusses what are the incidences that led to her taking this extreme step.

The documentary has involved incidents with the actresses then boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi and also involved statements made by her mother. The documentary consists of three episodes and deals with all the controversy surrounding Khan’s death.

The young actress died in 2013 and her death was confirmed by police, who found her hanging in her Juhu apartment. The Postmortem reports revealed that the actress was pregnant with Sooraj Pancholi’s baby. Police made a final report claiming it to be suicide by her mother, Rabia said that the actor was responsible behind it and charged him with abetment of suicide.

The latest development in the case further explains the case from Jiah Khan’s mother’s perspective, who has hired a private forensic investigator named Jason Payne james to investigate the case. James had earlier claimed that there is a distinctive oval mark on her neck, which has no reference in the postmortem report nor can it be the impact of a dupatta.

All of these controversies around the case led BBC to create a three episode documentary, where the news platform has claimed to be using all the facts. Some of the reviews after its release claim that the documentary is extremely sensitive for people, especially those with mental health problems.

The documentary cosits of all the details and evidences that were considered in making a report for example the six page suicide note allegedly written by Jiah and sentencing of Sooraj Pancholi.

Due to legal issues, the Death of Bollywood documentary is only made available in the United Kingdom and for the rest of the world, there are only clips and bytes available on social media. It was released on January 11 and since then has gone viral on the internet. People have specially connected with her mothers struggle and ordeals.
