Congress Waters Down Modi Speech In G7 Outreach Virtual Address

Taking a dig on BJP, Congress leader P. Chidambaram used a double-edged sword to define the PMs speech at the G7 Outreach. India is going places as it made its mark felt at the G7 Summit.

Speaking his mind on twitter, Mr. Chidambaram said that Mr. Narendra Modi’s speech was not only epic but ironic too. Loading it with sarcasm he said, that Modi government should practice what it preached to the world.

He held the accusation that India was an outliner in the Covid-19 second wave as the least vaccinated and most infected nation. Addressing the summit virtually, India puts its best foot forward as a nation that has managed itself well. Modi spoke about India’s climate change initiatives, resilience and preparedness for the future pandemics and its management of the second wave too.

Modi might have made an impression with his G7 counterparts when he said, “One Earth, One Health”, a thought that is gradually resonating with the world’s most developing nations. He presented many factors that have helped India come on the world map. Some of them included his coining the phrase of India’s ‘whole of society’ approach to fight the pandemic, how under his leadership India has learned to synergize efforts of all levels of the government, industry, and civil society.

He also explained India’s successful use of open-source digital tools for contact tracing and vaccine management and conveyed India’s willingness to share its experience and expertise with other developing countries. Seeking the G7’s support for the proposal moved at the WTO by India and South Africa, for a TRIPS waiver on COVID-related technologies, PM Modi advised the USA to keep raw material supplies open.

Commenting on India’s virtual and lack of physical presence, Mr. Chidambaram played up the fact that this is because of the Centre’s mismanagement of the Covid-19 second wave in India that we didn’t get a seat at the table.
