Congress criticizes Modi govt’s National Monetisation Pipeline, holds series of press conferences

Raising the stakes against the Modi Government over its National Monetization Pipeline scheme, the Congress intends to bring the issue to the grassroots level by conducting series of press conferences across the nation.

The Congress Party criticized the Union Government for gross incompetence and ineffectively managing the Indian economy, seeking to monetize assets like harbours, rail, airports, and roads.

The series of press conferences began with Rahul Gandhi holding the first one in Delhi recently. Senior leader P Chidambaram will also have a press conference on September 3 in Mumbai, and Ajay Maken is in Raipur around the same time. Many other Congress pioneers will address the media, like Bhupesh Baghel in Lucknow and Digivjaya Singh in Patna.

P Chidambaram and Rahul strongly criticized the NMP, calling it a scandal and demanding a more comprehensive discussion on it as the nation’s public wealth is on sale. “Sadly, what this nation has worked in the course of 70 years is being sold away, Rahul added.

The Modi government has failed in handling the nation’s economy, and now they don’t have the foggiest idea what to do,” Rahul added. This is planned to make one individual have the monopoly over agriculture, which will hurt farmers,” he said.

Chidambaram said labourers, students, workers, youth associations should debate on this subject. “You can’t surprise a nation with such plans without prior discussion,” he added.

Rahul emphasized, “Our privatization plan had a rationale. We didn’t privatize strategic sectors, and we consider Railways an essential industry since it transports lakhs and crores of individuals and employs people. We privatize enterprises that are going under loss.

We privatized the organizations that had the smallest market share. We didn’t privatize state enterprises with the capability of actually taking a look at private-sector monopoly in a specific sector,” Rahul added.

Chidambaram stated that the Prime Minister indicated that the infrastructure building programs, which values around 100 lakh crore rupees, presently the NITI Aayog intends to monetize six-lakh crore by selling the wealth of the country. “This activity has been planned with no ex-ante rules.

The Government ought to have spelt out its standards and objectives. You don’t set out upon a major exercise without first laying out the models and goals,” Chidambaram added.

The Left party also stated that selling resources for a fantastic bargain when low business sectors benefit only crony corporate and promote crony capitalism.”
