Clashes In West Bengal’s Hooghly Ahead of Ram Navami Rally
Fresh violence erupts in Rishra, West Bengal following clashes during the BJP procession. Train services were suspended, Riot control force was deployed.
Violent clashes erupted in West Bengal’s Rishra, resulting in train services being affected and railway properties being targeted.
This occurred after fresh violence broke out following clashes during a BJP procession in the area during Ram Navami.
Local, mail, and express train services were suspended for about three hours due to stone-pelting near a level crossing, while several long-distance trains were delayed due to the violence.
Riot control forces have been deployed in the Hooghly district following a spate of violence since Ram Navami to prevent further escalation.
The districts of Hooghly and Howrah near Kolkata have been on edge following communal clashes that broke out during Ram Navami rallies.
Public property was vandalized and police had to use tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
The violent clashes have prompted the Trinamool Congress government to suspend internet services and put prohibitory orders in place.
The ruling Trinamool and the BJP have engaged in a political slugfest, with the former accusing the latter of engineering the communal violence in Howrah. Trinamool’s general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, has released a video from a religious procession in which a young man was seen holding a firearm.
The BJP has alleged that the video posted by Banerjee is not from the Howrah rally organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and that he should be investigated for dividing people on religious lines, calling it a criminal offense.
The violence has led to disruptions in daily life and has sparked political tension between the ruling and opposition parties.
The use of force by the police has also come under scrutiny, with some accusing them of using excessive force against peaceful protesters.
The situation in West Bengal remains tense, and it is unclear when it will be resolved. The state government needs to take swift and decisive action to bring an end to the violence and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
Political parties need to refrain from using violence and communal rhetoric for their political gain and focus on finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict.
