Artworks by a group of students and faculty members from the Punjab-based Chitkara University have been selected for a virtual art show named “Olympia” to be displayed at the Tokyo Olympic 2021. The art show has been organized by the Indian Contemporary Artist Association.
The group consists of seven artists including Ph.D. scholars, Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) students, and faculty members from the Chitkara university. As per media reports, a reel video of the art show will be showcased at Tokyo Olympics Memorial Gallery in Japan’s Chuo-ku from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
A total of 52 participants from all over the world have been selected for the art show and seven of them are from Chitkara University. In the mixed media category, Piyush Anand painted ‘The Winner’, while Diksha Raghav painted ‘Moods of Glory’.
Both of them are students of BFA, Painting at the university. Furthermore, Ph.D. research scholars (Art & Design) Alisha Sharma painted ‘Olympic’; Abhijit Kumar Mohanty painted ‘Light of Hope’; and Rakesh Kumar Chaudhary painted ‘Running for Glory’. While Alisha painted using watercolors, Abhijit and Rakesh have worked through the digital medium for the art show.
From Chitkara University faculty, Dr. Arjun Kumar Singh painted ‘The Runner’using charcoal medium. In addition, Dean of Chitkara Design School Prof. (Dr.) Ranjan Kumar Mallik’s painting “Me & My Olympic 2021” made using digital medium has also been selected for the display.
Speaking about the accomplishment, Dean Dr. Mallik said that the artworks are a humble contribution from the university to motivate and encourage Indian athletes who are representing the country in the Tokyo Olympics.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor, Chitkara University, expressed happiness towards the achievement and congratulated the selected artists as they make their mark on the international platform with their artworks.
“Our students and faculty have made us proud with their magnificent achievement. Chitkara University has the vision to support creativity and boost innovation. We like to encourage our students as well as the faculty to explore their full potential while providing them the best global opportunities,” she added.

The opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics 2021 took place on Friday at the Japan National Stadium. At the Parade of Nations, the Indian contingent was led by five-time world champion Mary com and men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh.
The country witnessed 20 of its leading athletes representing India at the opening ceremony. Several prominent personalities, including newly-appointed sports minister Anurag Thakur and his deputy Nisith Pramanik, were present at the ceremony to cheer the Indian contingent.
