Chinese hackers were reportedly found snooping into Indian intelligence in recent months as per sources. These were state sponsored hackers who forced into Indian systems with an aim to target the power sector of the country.
As per the threat intelligence firm Recorded Future Inc, the hackers want to be involved in an apparent cyber-espionage campaign sponsored by China to impact the Indian side. The hackers targeted the north part of India where they took information from at least seven “load dispatch” centers.
The same sector but another load dispatch was previously targeted by a hacking group called RedEcho. It has done its research and found out that the Recorded Future agreed for strong overlaps with hacking groups that function in coordination of the US and Chinese government.
The Recorded Future report stresses, “The prolonged targeting of Indian power grid assets by Chinese state-linked groups offers limited economic espionage or traditional intelligence gathering opportunities.”
The report also added that they are assuming such information to cater to their requirement or desire to take a note about the critical information on the infrastructure. Other than that, the hacking also led to negligence of the Indian national emergency response system along with some of the subsidiaries of the logistic company. This hacking group is known as TAG-38 and is currently used by the Chinese officials for retrieving malicious activities carried out by the notorious softwares that it uses. The software is called ShadowPad, which was also known for its controversial association with China’s People’s Liberation Army.
