Bumrah’s Five-Wicket Haul Powers India to a Dominant Position Against Australia
Including J Bumrah’s gem of five wickets and taking charge of the Indian side, he led his side to bundle up Australia for a mere 104 runs to grab a 46-run lead in the first innings. The hosts did not spare the Australian top and middle order with Bumrah and Harshit Rana destroying their counterparts. A spirited last-wicket partnership between Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood took the score up to 25 more but was parted just before lunch. India now aims for a big lead going into the final session of this game.
Jasprit Bumrah again kept up his good form, dismissing Alex Carey at the very start of Day 2 for the Indian team. Carey, who had come into the series as South Australia’s leading Sheffield Shield run-maker, perished as Bumrah’s accuracy got the better of him and he edged one to Rishabh Pant. Other dismissals were also contributed to Bumrah’s relentless precision and he finished a great spell at 5-30 off the innings.
As for Bumrah’sh aggression, Harshit Rana targeted hard lengths as a good foil to his aggressive style. His patience was rewarded when Nathan Lyon was out caught and bowled a short ball to KL Rahul at third slip. Rana also put pressure on Starc and Hazlewood, but the Australian lower order battled well.
What Australia’s last pair did is they hung around for 18 overs against some hostile bowling from Bumrah and Rana. Starc made some STTA strength of resilience, middling several deliveries as Hazlewood cleverly steered short-pitched bowling. Both added some decency to Australia’s total, taking their side past the 100-run mark.
But then, the fighting spirit came to an abrupt stop as Bumrah appealed for a change and brought back himself and Rana. Sharma Rana got one as Starc pulled one and Pant easily took the catch at the right time before lunch.
