BJP minister’s car runs over 4 people in UP, angry farmers react by killing 4 others

Uttar Pradesh – Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri witnessed eight killings on Sunday after a convoy consisting of three SUVs ran over four farmers. One of the vehicles was owned by the Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra. The incident further resulted in a clash on both sides as the angry farmers took a violent route.

After the incident was reported in the local police station, there were mass-scale protests in the region and the farm union leaders were adamant about arresting the minister as well as his son, who reportedly was a part of the covy.

The leaders demand the sitting judge of the Supreme Court to investigate the matter and they will continue to protest in all districts on Monday to highlight the matter and urge the jurisdiction to punish the guilty.

The minister denies his son, Ashish Mishra, involvement as he stresses that he was not even there at the scene. “Two vehicles were set ablaze by the miscreants — one belongs to me and the other to a party worker,” said Mishra, who is also the BJP MP from Lakhimpur Kheri.

However, the farmers are blaming the minister’s son for the killing as according to them, he was the one leading the convoy. Following the incident, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait also stated that the farmers who were protesting during the convoy march were returning and suddenly the car had attacked them. He also added that there have been several killings till now and the report has only claimed four till now.

Mishra said his son Ashish, who is a businessman, was not at the spot when the incident occurred. “Two vehicles were set ablaze by the miscreants — one belongs to me and the other to a party worker,” said Mishra, who is the BJP MP from Lakhimpur Kheri.

The police have confirmed that there was no firing at the scene however, the involvement of SUVs was definitely there. While the two of them were trapped by the crowd, the driver of one SUV managed to escape from the crime scenes.

The opposition leaders condemned the incident and asked for the UP CM Yogi Adityanath to resign immediately. Violence in the region has significantly increased ahead of the state election. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav was the one who demanded resignation from Adityanath and soon BSP leader Mayawati also asked the Supreme Court to take suo-motu cognizance of the incident.

AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi also questioned the ruling party for continuously targeting the farmers and as per reports she has already left for the place to take note of the incident. The Villagers were already angry and this incident had further worsened the situation leading them to take swift action in killing fory BJP workers. Many who were present there have confirmed that it was a very insistent reaction and everything happened too fast. As per Mishra, his party workers were off to receive the deputy CM when some assailants from the crowd of farmers attacked the convoy.
