BJP and NC MLAs Face Off in J&K Assembly Over Article 370 Restoration Resolution
On Thursday, a heated clash erupted in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly between BJP MLAs and assembly marshals after Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather ordered the eviction of BJP members protesting a special status resolution. This resolution passed a day earlier by the ruling National Conference, which is urging the Central government to restore Article 370. This article was previously allowing special autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir.
The situation in the assembly grew tense when BJP MLAs moved to the front of the House to protest the resolution. Awami Ittehad Party leader Sheikh Khursheed joined them. He held a banner calling for Articles 370 and 35A to be restored. BJP members tried to snatch and tear the banner in the house. This instance led to more clashes between the groups.
Despite an adjournment to calm the assembly the uproar continued with both BJP and NC MLAs chanting slogans. As BJP MLAs refused to back down Speaker Rather directed marshals to remove them leading to physical altercations and the eventual marshalling out of three BJP members.
In the drametic scene in the assembly of J&K both political parties made their stand clear on the controversial Article 370. This incident showed that there are a big division between both the political parties over Jammu and Kashmir’s status and removal of Article.
