Prominent international star Priyanka Chopra, who embraced motherhood via surrogacy last year, opened up about freezing her eggs in her 30s on her mother Madhu Chopra’s insistence in an interview with Dax Shepard.
“The biological clock is for real,” the actor stated in the podcast, highlighting how harder it becomes for women to get pregnant after they turn 35. She commended the rapid advancements in science, underscoring the freedom she felt after opting for the procedure.
Chopra, mother to Malti Marie Jonas, cited a number of reasons behind choosing to freeze her eggs, including wanting to get to a certain place in her career and not having met the person she wanted to have children with at the time.

So what is egg freezing, in exact terms?
Oocyte Cryopreservation, or in simple terms, egg freezing, involves extracting, freezing, and storing a woman’s eggs, said fertility consultant Dr Nisha Pansare from Pune’s Nova IVF Fertility. The procedure allows the eggs to stay of the same age as when you froze them – even Chopra highlighted this benefit in the podcast.
The procedure will, however, be started only if a person is found suitable, another fertility consultant, Dr Karishma Dafle, from the same clinic explained. After deciding to opt for egg freezing, certain tests will be conducted, and finally upon receiving the green signal from the concerned expert, the eggs from the woman’s ovaries will be harvested and later frozen.
Once a woman turns 35, the number and quality of the eggs go down drastically, stressed Dafle. This procedure works well for single women in their 30s, those who do not wish to get pregnant soon, and women with conditions that can reduce egg quality with time.
