Biden Calls Xi Jinping ‘Dictator’ Despite Pledges For Better Ties

U.S. President Joe Biden and China’s Xi Jinping met for the first time face-to-face in a year, showing a major step towards improving their countries’ relations, after the APEC Summit 2023..

They met in Northern California, spending four hours together in meetings, a working lunch, and even taking a stroll in a garden. This meeting was crucial for both countries addressing global economic competition and avoiding conflicts.

Joe Biden highlighted the importance of clear and direct communication with China. He emphasized that misunderstandings between such major countries could lead to serious problems. Therefore, they agreed that they should directly contact each other if any concerns arise.

After the meeting, Biden reiterated his earlier views on Xi Jinping, referring to him as a “dictator.” He explained that Xi runs a communist country, which has a very different system of governance compared to the U.S. This remark came despite the efforts to improve dialogue and understanding between the two leaders.

During their meeting, they reached some key agreements. One of the main focuses was curbing the production of illicit fentanyl. This is significant because a lot of the chemicals used in making synthetic fentanyl, a powerful narcotic, come from China.

These substances are then trafficked into the U.S., contributing to a serious overdose crisis. By addressing this issue, both countries aim to tackle the drug problem that affects many lives in the U.S.

Apart from fentanyl, they also agreed to reopen military ties. This step is crucial for maintaining peace and understanding between their military forces.

The meeting was part of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference and came at a time when the world is facing multiple challenges. These include economic instability, conflicts in the Middle East and Europe, and tensions in regions like Taiwan.

This meeting between Biden and Xi was not just about their bilateral relations but also about addressing some global issues that impact both countries and US-China relations.

The efforts to maintain direct communication and understand each other’s perspectives can help in reducing potential conflicts and promoting global stability. But Biden’s ‘Dictator’ remark clarifies everything!
