Big Moments from the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Party
This time the opening party was different. Instead of having it inside some huge stadium, it took place on the Seine River in Paris. More than 1,000 athletes rode on boats down the river and cruised past famous Paris sights, including Notre Dame Church and pretty bridges. The parade started at one bridge and ended at a place called Trocadero.
Rain Tried to Spoil the Fun
This was an evening party, and it rained, so things were a little wet. The rain did not deter the show, though. The person in charge of planning everything, Thomas Jolly, had worked very hard to make sure every part of the show was perfect.
Exciting Performances
Even though it was raining, there were several cool kinds of different performances. These types of shows were very special because they tried new things and were unlike anything that had been used in opening parties at the Olympics before.
Olympic Flame Gets Lit
At the end of the party, two famous French Olympic winners, Teddy Riner and Marie-Jose Perec, worked together to light the Olympic flame. This is always an important moment at the Olympics.

The President Says “Let’s Begin!”
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, had a special job. He officially said that the 2024 Paris Olympic Games were now open. This means all the sports competitions can start.
A New Opening Ceremony for the Olympics
The Opening Ceremony was unique in the aspect that, for the first time in history, the Summer Olympics did not begin in a large sports stadium. Rather, they used the beautiful river and city of Paris to set up the party.
