BCCI issues SOP for players, signed consent needed before training is resumed

On Sunday, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) issued the SOPs (standard operating procedures) to all the state associations regarding resumption of cricket. These SOPSs are going to aid the state associations and authorities to restart the activities related to cricket. But the players are required to sign the consent forms before they resume their training.

The 100 page long SOP, has principles mentioned by BCCI regarding resuming the training, ground practice and preparations of practice facilities keeping pandemic situation in mind, protocols regarding gymnastics, physiotherapy and medical protocols and guidelines. Protocols regarding management of a suspected Covid-19 case are also included in the SOP.

SOP also contains the consent form for players in which they have to acknowledge and accept the risks involved with training in current situation, and that he has been informed of all the placed protocols and precautionary measures that would be taken by the association. Players are also required to acknowledge that its not possible for associations to eliminate all risks related to Covid-19 even by following all the precautionary and preventative measures, and that knowing all the risks involved the player is resuming the training.

Keeping the current situation of pandemic in mind, BCCI has shared its views regarding training resumption with all the state bodies.

“It is said that cricket is a religion in India and the fanfare and fervor that cricket commands are far greater than any other sport or event in the country. Besides, it also helps generate tremendous revenue and employs players and staff across 38 State teams, both in the men and women category. BCCI is responsible for ensuring the resumption of cricketing activity in India to help secure employment of all its workforce and also provide a source of entertainment to the fans at the earliest.”

It added, “All BCCI affiliated State Cricket Associations will adhere to these guidelines and take additional measures as may be necessary to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection. Approvals must also be sought from local administration and health authorities before commencing any cricket activity. The health and safety of players, staff and stakeholders will be the sole responsibility of respective State Cricket Associations.”
