Barakah Plant Ready To Produce More Carbon-Free Electricity In UAE: ENEC

The world is facing Global Energy Shortages but Barakah Plant Unit 3 is going to produce more clean electricity by nuclear energy under UAE’s megaproject.

The transmission network in the UAE is now connected to thousands of megawatts of clean electricity capacity.

In order to get Unit 3 ready for operational use in the upcoming months, electricity will now be increased and the unit tested.

Grid connection of Unit 3 improves energy security for the UAE and fosters the growth of a Net Zero Economy which is the third unit in three years.

The UAE’s ability to supply a new generation of nuclear energy is demonstrated by ENEC, a megaproject in the country.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) announced today that its operations and maintenance subsidiary, Nawah Energy Company (Nawah), has now safely and successfully connected the unit to the UAE’s transmission grid.

It will deliver the first megawatts of carbon-free electricity from the third of the four units at the Barakah Plant. This comes after Unit 3 of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant started up.

In order to address climate change, one of the main concerns confronting the world today, and to ensure UAE energy security and energy sustainability.

Unit 3 will contribute an additional 1,400 megawatts of zero-carbon emission electricity capacity to the national grid.

UAE’s Clean Energy Production

With Units 1 and 2 now running at full capacity, producing clean power continuously, and Unit 3 about to begin running at full capacity.

As a crucial part of the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, Barakah is hastening the decarbonization of the power industry.

The entire nuclear industry is a crucial component of the UAE’s clean energy system, which consists of numerous low-carbon technologies and guarantees the grid’s dependability, effectiveness, and durability for at least the following 60 years.

Statement of MD & CEO of ENEC

Units 1 and 2 are already operating at maximum efficiency, continually producing clean energy, while Unit 3 is set to start operating at maximum efficiency.

Barakah is accelerating the decarbonization of the power sector as an essential component of the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy.

The UAE’s clean energy system, which comprises a variety of low-carbon technologies and ensures the grid’s dependability, efficiency, and longevity for at least the next 60 years, is crucially dependent on the nuclear industry as a whole.

After being connected to the grid, Unit 3 will go through the Power Ascension Testing procedure, which steadily increases power levels (PAT).

The procedure will be continuously observed and tested while following all national and local legal requirements and the highest levels of international safety, quality, and security until the maximum amount of electricity is produced.

Importance of Barakah Nuclear Plant

The four units at Barakah alone are the largest source of dispatchable clean power and contribute 25% of the UAE’s National Determined Contributions to Net Zero.

The Plant serves as an example of how nuclear energy projects may be executed successfully, safely, and affordably in order to combat rising carbon emissions.

Nuclear energy is assisting in decarbonizing some of the most energy-intensive industries through the clean electricity it produces at Barakah.

Additionally, nuclear is allowing the UAE to export high-value LNG fuels, boosting the amount of national funds available for foreign investment to promote economic diversification.
