Bajrang Punia: 1st Indian Who Won 4 Medals
After winning a bronze medal today, Bajrang Punia made history by becoming the first Indian wrestler to take home four medals from the World Championships.
In one of the 65kg bronze medal matches, Sebastian C Rivera of Puerto Rico was defeated by Bajrang, who took home a bronze from the Olympics in Tokyo last year, 11-9.
Bajrang, who lost in the quarterfinals to John Michael Diakomihalis of the USA, earned a spot in the bronze medal match through the repechage round. Before defeating Rivera, he overcame Armenian Vazgen Tevanyan 7-6.
In the previous years, Bajrang earned bronze in 2013, silver in 2018, and again bronze in 2019.
Vinesh Phogat: 1st Female Who Won 2 Medals
Vinesh Phogat won bronze in the 53 kg division at the 2022 World Championships in Belgrade, making her the first Indian female wrestler to take home two medals from the competition.
Vinesh defeated Sweden’s Emma Jonna Malmgren to reach the previously unheard-of milestone. The Indian athlete, 28, has earlier won bronze at the Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, competition in 2019.
When some people criticized her for winning a bronze medal instead of gold. Vinesh Phogat responded very well by writing,
“I hope everyone will be more responsible about their words.. Focus on what your athletes are doing well! People need to have a better perspective and stop the constant criticism in Indian sports. 🙏🙏”

Vinesh said that it’s very easy to act like an expert & comment on anything by sitting comfortably at home. They should respect the athletes’ best performances.
It’s true that people have lots of expectations from Vinesh Phogat. But there are wins and losses in the sports, it’s quite normal.
She gave her best performance as always and won a bronze medal for India. Vinesh has also created history by becoming the 1st Indian female athlete who won 2 medals.
