BAI Announces BWF World Junior Championships Squad

The 2023 BWF World Junior Championships is the twenty-third edition of the BWF World Junior Championships. It will be held in Spokane, Washington, United States from 25th September to 8th October 2023. 

The event is also known as the ‘2023 Suhandinata Cup’. The teams event of the 2023 BWF World Junior Championships is being held from 25th to 30th September 2023. 

South Korea was the champion of the last edition held in Santander, Spain. 42 countries representing all five continental federations are competing in this event.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced the Indian squad for the BWF World Junior Championships 2023, which will be held in Spokane, USA, from September 25. 

Ayush Shetty, a two-time U19 All India Junior Ranking Champion, will lead the boys’ team, while Unnati Hooda, the 2022 Odisha Open champion, will lead the girls’ singles section.

Ayush Shetty will be joined by Tushar Suveer and Lokesh Reddy in the boys’ squad. The boys’ doubles team consists of Nicholas Nathan Raj and Tushar Suveer, and Divyam Arora and Mayank Rana. 

The girls’ doubles category is led by Radhika Sharma and Tanvi Sharma, and Vennala K and Shriyanshi Valishetty. 

Samarveer and Radhika Sharma, along with Sathwik Reddy K and Vaishnavi Khadkekar, will represent the mixed doubles challenge.

The BWF World Junior Championships begin with the mixed team championships on September 25, followed by the individual event on October 2.

The squad was selected after a competitive trial process held in New Delhi from July 26 to 29. The selections were based on performance and ranking.

Sanjay Mishra, the General Secretary of BAI, expressed confidence in the selected players, stating that they would perform their best and make the country proud. Unnati Hooda, Tara Shah (World No 7), and Devika Sihag (India ranked 7) will lead the girls’ singles section.

The Indian junior badminton squad are highly skilled and trained. The squad players are aiming to showcase their skills, compete and succeed in the international event so that they can make their country proud on the international stage.
