The last match of the five-match Twenty20 series saw Australia upping their game after the West Indies had already clinched the trophy earlier by winning the first three games. It won’t be wrong to share the credit of this thrilling win between two of the Australian greats–Mitchell Marsh and Mitchell Starc.
Marsh went all out as he struck 75 while also managing to take three wickets which led the Australian team to a winning position. He was essentially the one who decided a win for this match but in the end, it was Mitchell Starc, whose stellar bowling during the concluding overs became the deciding factor.
The Hosts won the first three games and it looked that the clash on Wednesday would also be an easy victory for West Indies. If it were to happen, they would have defeated an arguably strong team by a huge margin of 4-0.
In the last over, the host nation needed 11 runs, which was not as difficult given the form of the players in the earlier matches but Starc stepped up to scrap all hopes as he bowled five consecutive dot balls before finally giving the Indies player opportunity to hit a six in the final ball.
Together Australians helped themselves score a four-run victory over the much dominant team of West Indies. The fourth match saw Australians batting first and scoring 186 by losing six wickets. The innings were interrupted twice due to the rain but that hardly seemed to bother Marsh who went on for a 75 off 44 balls.
Marsh has been in great form as this was his third half-century for the series. He has been one of the few players on the team to have remained consistent. He was complemented by the skipper Aaron Flinch who scored 53 helping the team set up a strong total on the scoreboard.
Of Course, West Indies players started with full force and confidence as they looked to get a complete victory against the Aussies. Gayle was the first wicket of Marsh and went on to take Nicholas Pooran and Simmons.
