Asian Junior Table Tennis: Payas Jain & Yashaswini Ghorpade Duo Wins ‘Gold’
Payas Jain & Yashaswini Ghorpade pair earned gold medal in the U-19 Mixed Doubles event at the Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Indian players Payas Jain and Yashaswini Ghorpade took home the gold in the U-19 Mixed Doubles competition at the Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships.
In the U-19 Boys’ Doubles, Payas and Yashwansh Malik took home the silver medal after falling to Yuta Iimura & Yuhi Sakai of Japan 8-11, 7-11, 14-12, and 6-11 in the championship match.
Han Xinyuan & Qin Yuxuan from China were defeated by Payas and Yashaswini 3-2. In the end, the young paddlers prevailed 11-9, 11-1, 10-12, 7-11, and 11-8.

The Indian team had defeated Chan Baldwin Ho Wah and Wong Hoi Tung of Hong Kong in the semifinals 10-12, 11-8, 11-6, 4-11, 2-11, 11-4.
Yashaswini advanced to the semifinals of the U-19 Girls’ singles competition before falling to Chen Yi of China 0-4.
India competed in the U-19 Boys’ Team category and advanced to the semifinals before falling to Japan 3-2 in a hard-fought game. The U-19 Girls’ Team lost to Chinese Taipei 1-3 in the competition, which took place from September 1–6, and was unable to go past the quarterfinal stage.
Abhinandh Pradhivadhi Bhayankaram was defeated by Kazakhstan’s Alan Kurmangaliyev in the U-15 Boys’ Singles quarterfinals with scores of 8-11, 6-11, 11-6, and 9-11.
Jennifer Varghese of India fell against Sachi Aoki of Japan in the U-15 Girls’ Singles match by scores of 6-11, 3-11, and 6-11, while the Indian U-15 team was unable to advance past the quarterfinal round in the U-15 teams competition.

Chitkara University first-year BBA student Payas Jain won three medals at the Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championship.
Jain claimed a gold medal in the mixed doubles competition, possibly India’s first-ever gold in this competition’s division. He also took home two bronze medals: one in the U-19 doubles competition and one in the team competition.
Payas Jain said, “This is the first time an Indian player got three medals in the Asian Junior Championship.”
